Workshop FOCUS K3D

The workshop will address relevant and challenging problems in the use of 3D virtual product modeling content for knowledge based engineering (KBE). This workshop targets the scientific and industrial community working in the field of knowledge intensive technologies in the area of virtual product modeling (VPD). Recently, semantic technologies, including ontologies, have shown benefits for heterogeneous information and knowledge management but they still cannot handle 3D objects that carry knowledge about their interface and behavior. It is a general problem that knowledge today is mainly hidden in the applications and not embedded in the 3D shape itself. We address new topics like functional digital mock-ups (FDMU) and engineering ontologies. The workshop is funded by FOCUS K3D, a Coordination Action (CA) of the European Union's 7th Framework Programme which aims at promoting the adoption of best-practices for the use of semantics in 3D content modeling and processing.
